    About the School

The School of Software at Shandong University was established in 2001 and is one of the first 35 national model software schools approved by National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Education. Since its establishment, the school has made important contributions to the strategic adjustment of China’s economic structure and the urgently needed talent cultivation for the development of the software industry.

The history of the school can be traced back to the original Department of Computer Science at Shandong University, the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Shandong University of Technology, and the Department of Computer Fundamental Teaching at Shandong Medical University. After the merger of the three universities in 2000, the School of Computer Science and Technology was integrated and established. In 2001, the School of Software was established. In 2018, the School of Computer Science and Technology relocated to the Qingdao campus, while the School of Software stayed in Jinan for independent development.

The school has a doctoral degree authorization point in the first level discipline of software engineering and a postdoctoral research station in software engineering. At present, seven research centers have been established, including Human-computer Interaction and Virtual Reality Research Center, Software and Data Engineering Research Center, Network and Information Security Research Center, Artificial Intelligence Research Center, High Performance Computing and System Structure Research Center, Advanced Interdiscipline Research Center and Intelligent Media Research Center.

The school has conducted in-depth international exchange and academic cooperation, and has established close academic exchange and cooperation relationships with more than 30 universities, research institutes, and multinational corporations in more than 10 countries and regions. Jointly with Tsinghua University, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and UBC in Canada, we have launched the Association of Crowd Science and Engineering (ACE), a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary academic association linked by artificial intelligence. The Joint SDU-NTU Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research (C-FAIR) established with Nanyang Technological University, aims to be a world-class platform for basic and translational research, life-long education, talent development, and R&D commercialization.

The school actively carries out social services, serves the local economy, and promotes social development. Through the combination of production, learning and research, the transformation of scientific research results has created huge social and economic benefits in the fields of wisdom and health, intelligent government, intelligent manufacturing, medical care and health, media animation and other fields.
