    Advanced Interdiscipline Research Center

    The development of Advanced Interdiscipline Research Center of Shandong University originated in the early 1980s. The Computer Aided Design (CAD) Teaching and Research Department led by Professor Wang Jiaye, the first chair of the department, is one of the earliest scientific research teams in China to carry out geometric calculation, computer graphics and computer aided design research. In later years, the Geometric Design and Information Visualization Laboratory was established and became today's Advanced Interdiscipline Research Center.

    Connecting with the world's scientific and technological frontiers and major national strategic needs, and closely serving national and local economic development, the center conducts theoretical and applied cross-research in intelligent computing, graphics/images processing and information visualization, among others. The main research contents include: Intelligent computing, intelligent graphics and images, geometric design and calculation, data mining and risk assessment, financial big data and investment decision, medical image processing, digital human engineering, smart city, smart power, virtual simulation and system control. The characteristics of the academic research of the center are: driven by the major strategic needs of the national development, it conducts research on basic theories and key technologies in major applications, adheres to the organic integration of academic innovation and application innovation, and contributes to the national and local economic development while making advanced scientific research achievements academically.

    The center has 9 teachers, including 4 professors, 5 associate professors and 3 doctoral supervisors. At the same time, they are the cross-doctoral supervisor team for "Computational medicine and digital human Engineering". There are more than 10 doctoral students and more than 50 master’s students.

    Over the years, the center has made important achievements in the interdisciplinary research of theory and application in intelligent computing, graphic and image processing, information visualization and industry software. Published in ACM TOG, TVCG, CGF, CAD, CAGD, TIFS, TCSVT, TMM, PR, CVPR, ACM MM, SIGIR, ICASSP, IPMI, KBS and other important international journals and conferences. Approximately 35 national invention patents have been authorized and more than 10 software Copyrights have been obtained. The center undertakes a number of vertical projects such as national key research and development Plan, National Natural Science Foundation key and surface projects, provincial major innovation project, provincial key research and development plan, and Provincial Natural Science Foundation major basic research plan, with research project funding of over 10 million yuan.

    Since its inception, the center has adhered to the organic integration of theoretical and applied innovation, focusing on the mutual promotion of both theoretical research and applied system research. "3D CT Data Visualization System with sub-pixel Accuracy", "Virtual Human Modeling Technology based on Data Mining and its Application in Medical image Processing System", "Remote Visualization of massive data in large-scale Dynamic Scenes and its System Implementation", "Application of form-preserving fitting Technology in Medical image Visualization System" , "high-precision Medical image Processing System", “Composite pultrusion equipment controll system ” and etc. have been applied to corresponding industries. The theoretical results and application system have won the first and second prizes of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education and the first, second and third prizes of the Science and Technology Progress Award of Shandong Province. It has also developed a good relationship with well-known industry companies.

    The center places a great deal of emphasis on student training. As one hand, we provide students with a comfortable scientific research environment, including first-class hardware facilities and rich scientific research awards; On the other hand, we actively assist them in growing up faster through rigorous scientific research training. The students have a solid theoretical foundation, outstanding algorithm research and development skill and strong practical ability. There are outstanding advantages for the students, whether they go abroad for further study, or enter Alibaba, IBM, Tencent, Baidu, Jingdong and other well-known IT enterprises, or join local and foreign universities, government agencies, and institutions. Five graduate students of the center have won national scholarships in the past five years, and more than ten students have received exchange experiences from famous universities overseas.
