Based on the theory of computer system structure, the Center of High-Performance Computing and System Structure mainly focuses on the research of high-performance computing, big data processing and analysis, intelligent hardware and edge computing, network and cloud computing, embedded and Internet of Things applications. The center is composed of 11 teachers and their PhD/Master graduate students, including five professors, five associate professors and one lecturer. Prof. Liu Weiguo is selected as the special professor of Taishan Scholars. The main research contents include:
1. High performance computing, big data processing and analysis
High performance computing and big data processing and analysis are hot issues of the new generation of information technology. At the same time, as a high-tech industry with an expanding market share in the global market, high-performance computing is widely used in high-tech fields such as finance, biology, and earth science. With the emergence and gradual popularization of a new generation of architectures such as large-scale heterogeneous multi-core architecture and cloud computing environment, high-performance computing is widely used. How to make full use of the powerful computing power of this kind of architecture has important practical significance to carry out basic research in this field and promote the development of related industries. From the perspective of the world, the work in this field is still in the embryonic stage, and in-depth research and innovation in this field will be an important work goal of this research direction.
2. Cross-layer design technology of heterogeneous multi-core architecture such as GPU+CPU
3. Computer network architecture and protocol mechanism: mainly includes software defined network; Data center network; Network optimization algorithm, etc
4. Intelligent and embedded low-power GPU applications for drones, unmanned vehicles and other equipment
5. High-performance network structure design and intelligent routing
6. Integrated design and application of Internet of Things and edge computing
In recent years, teachers and students of the center have been published in international well-known journals such as IEEE TPDS, TC, TOS, TCAD, TECS and SC, NSDI, FAST, DAC, PPoPP, IPDPS, DATE, IEEE He has published more than 100 academic papers at international top conferences on high performance computing and system architecture such as Cluster, ICPP, LCTES, ICCD and RTSS, and obtained more than 20 national invention patents and software Copyrights. The paper on multi-sequence alignment and short-read sequence processing using GPU processor published by Professor Liu Weiguo's team has twice won the first prize of the German Fraunhofer IGD Best paper; In 2016, the research team of the Center was awarded the Best Paper Award by CCF High Performance Computing Committee for their work on IO analysis for high-performance applications on the domestic Sunway Taihulight heterogeneous supercomputer. In 2017, Professor Liu Weiguo's team participated in the project 18.9-Pflops Nonlinear Earthquake Simulation on Sunway TaihuLight: Enabling Depiction of 18-Hz and 8-Meter Scenarios won the Gordon Bell Award, the highest international award in the field of supercomputing applications.
The center adheres to the combination of production, learning and research, and Jinxiandai Company founded by Mr. Li Feng is officially listed on the GEM this year, becoming another successful benchmark of the combination of production, learning and research in our institute. At present, the center has undertaken more than ten important national and provincial research projects, including the 863 Program, the National Key Research and Development Plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the industrialization special project of the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Natural Science Foundation and Youth Project, the Shandong Joint Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation, and the Sino-German Cooperation Research Project (PPP). The center is well funded for research and is currently working with Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz (Germany) and Fraunhofer IDM Center at Nanyang Technological University with close exchanges and cooperation. Teachers and students of the center have visited international cooperation units for many times and jointly carried out international cooperation work.
The center attaches great importance to the cultivation of talents and constantly enhances the innovation ability. Over the years, the center has vigorously promoted the scientific and technological innovation activities of undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Software. The teachers of the Center have guided the undergraduate and graduate teams to participate in important international and domestic discipline competitions and achieved excellent results.
